Robert Kirkman lets me know how long until I read Invincible

Announcement from Kirkman

The headline is not that I dislike Invincible. It's not a slight against Kirkman. I read the first issue of Invincible a while back and remember liking it. The headline is about the fact that it is a very long running series, and the feeling of it being an insurmountably long run to read.

What's hard about that is that I feel like I should be current on everything. This is a comic news site, so I have to be on top of everything that is happening in that world, right? It's something that I remember feeling even when I wasn't writing about it, this constant feel that I have to be in the middle of the conversation. In fact, the first feeling that I had when I saw that announcement was trying to figure out how I can keep up on mostly current things while reading to catch up on this is that I could be caught up in time for the first arc.

Then I realized that I am going about it all the wrong way. I'd be reading the book without the right mindset to enjoy it - I might still like it, but that's not the best way to give it a real shot. I'm probably not going to be part of the conversation, and that's something that I'm starting to realize that I'm okay with.

I may love Invincible, I may hate it, I may have no reaction to it. All of that will be a while from now, when I know that the series is there in its entirety. It'll be a while, I won't be part of the conversation, and I'm okay with that.
